Leah has some interesting ideas sometimes; this one took our minds off the upcoming Movie and gave us a new writing style to play with: the media. The Challenge-- write a Public Service Announcement featuring the characters of Highlander. Since it was becoming clear that we all had our favourites, she limited our choices to the 4 Horsemen, Xavier St. Cloud, Kalas, The Kurgan or Fitzkairn.

My biggest problem this time was choosing between the 3 ideas that immediately came to mind. My Fitzkairn for Literacy campaign was knocked out when someone else took the idea first. My third idea, if you're curious, was Kalas doing a testimonial for the sanctuary Monastary: "Just ask for Brother Kalas, I promise I'll take care of you. Personally."

Once again, The Ghost Cat presents her MWC, have you seen these men?

"Crimestoppers": A Mid-Week Challenge

The following crime has been unsolved for the last 3,000 years. The Donan Wood Foundation has provided a reward for any information leading to the apprehension of the suspects. All tips are anonymous and confidential.

The incident occurred in a small nomadic village. The suspects disabled an alarm system; their intention was, apparently, robbery. When a local explained there were no valuables, the group became enraged.

Reports vary at this point: some claim there were no survivors, others say that a young woman was kidnapped. The suspects got away with various personal possessions and may have performed indignities on the bodies.

Suspect #1 is described as follows—

Caucasian male, black hair, brown eyes, with a prominent nose. Last seen on a white horse, wearing blue face paint. Suspect may answer to the alias "Methos".

Suspect #2 is described as follows—

Caucasian male, black hair, brown eyes, vertical scar across right eye. Last seen on a dark horse, wearing scale armour, with black tribal markings on his face-- possibly tattooing. Suspect may answer to the alias "Chronos" and is believed to be the leader.

Suspect #3 is described as follows—

Caucasian male, short brown hair, partially shaved skull; dark beard. Last seen on a dark horse, wearing black leather armour, black markings on right side of face only. Suspect may answer to the alias "Caspian" and is known to be mentally unstable.

Suspect #4 is described as follows—

Caucasian male, short blonde hair, partially shaved skull, heavy build. Last seen on a dark horse, wearing scale armour with black markings around eyes and in forehead area. Suspect prefers axe over sword; may answer to the alias "Silas".

All suspects are considered extremely dangerous; do not confront them. If you have any information, please call 1-800-WATCHER, that’s 1-800-928-2437.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Northlanders will be able to appreciate this, but I’ll explain it for everyone else. "Crimestoppers" is set up by the RCMP and local police. It’s a very low-budget television and radio campaign; just short "spots", about the length of a commercial, usually during the evening news. Picture America’s Most Wanted on zero budget, and you’ve got it about right.

I was actually surprised, more people recognised the Crimestoppers format than I expected, even some Americans. One more thing. Please, do not phone the Watcher number, even as a joke. With the huge number of toll-free lines in service today, someone might actually answer!!
